Escambia County Neighborhood Cleanups: How the Free Curbside Days Work

By Pelican Haul-Off ·

An Escambia County neighborhood cleanup is a scheduled day when the county and its partners pick up furniture, mattresses, appliances, yard debris and other household junk from the curb in one designated area, free of charge. The City of Pensacola runs its own version, the Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup, for neighborhoods inside city limits. They are not dumpster days, and they are not open to everyone at once. The trick is knowing whether your street is in the next one and following the rules for that program.

The county program: how it works

Escambia County's cleanups let residents leave yard debris, household waste and other items at the curb to be disposed of by the county and partnering agencies at no charge. Two rules matter most:

  • Only residents in the designated cleanup area can take part. If your street is outside the area, crews will not pick up your pile.
  • Items must be at the curb directly in front of your home by 7 a.m. on the cleanup day.

As posted on the county's page in early October 2026, the upcoming county cleanups were:

AreaDate (7 a.m.)
Bellview EastWednesday, October 7, 2026
Navy Point and Beach HavenWednesday, October 14, 2026
NorthpointeWednesday, October 21, 2026
Olive RoadWednesday, November 4, 2026
Ensley NorthWednesday, November 18, 2026

Dates and boundaries change, so check the county page for your area before you drag anything out.

What the county takes

Household appliances and electronics, yard waste, household junk and debris, furniture and mattresses, bicycles, toys and grills, and household hazardous waste such as paint, motor oil, chemicals and batteries. Tires are accepted with a limit of 10 per household.

What the county won't take

Building materials (concrete, bricks, drywall, roofing, siding), explosives or ammunition, auto parts, dirt or sod, vehicles or vessels, and 55 gallon drums.

The City of Pensacola's Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup

Inside city limits, every neighborhood gets one cleanup day a year, scheduled January through October. Sanitation Services collects what is left at the curb, and Code Enforcement sweeps the area and addresses code violations. The city's page uses an interactive map to show which area is next. As posted in October 2026, the next city cleanup was set for Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Timing rules: put items at the curb before 7 a.m. on the cleanup day, but not sooner than three days before (the Wednesday before). Keep tires and paint cans separate from everything else.

Accepted: household appliances and electronics, household junk and debris, furniture and mattresses, carpeting, grills with no propane tanks, bicycles and toys, tires, and old paint and paint cans.

Not accepted: building materials (concrete, bricks, blocks, roofing, drywall, or more than one cubic yard of lumber), household or pool chemicals, herbicides or pesticides, explosives or ammunition, auto parts, dirt or sod, propane tanks, and garbage or yard trash.

The biggest difference: the county event takes household chemicals and yard waste, and the city event does not. If you are in the city, our household hazardous waste guide explains the free drop off for chemicals.

What to do between cleanups

Most people's junk does not line up with a once a year date. Your other options:

  • ECUA bulk pickup for ECUA customers, one requested pile per week. See our ECUA bulk pickup guide.
  • City Special Collection for City of Pensacola sanitation customers, scheduled for a fee. Our City of Pensacola bulk trash post covers it.
  • Haul away when you can't wait or the item can't sit outside. Our junk hauling service takes furniture, mattresses, garage clutter and single items, but not concrete, roofing, dirt or building materials, the same things the cleanups exclude.

Missed your cleanup day?

Text photos of what you want gone to (850) 273-8546 with your ZIP code and whether there are stairs. We text back a price and the soonest pickup time, and the price is confirmed before anything is loaded. Same day pickup is possible when available, and your first pickup is $20 off when you mention the website.

Common questions

Can I join a neighborhood cleanup if I don't live in that area?

No. Escambia County says only residents in the designated cleanup area can participate, and items must be at the curb in front of your own residence.

How early can I put items out for the Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup?

No sooner than three days before the cleanup, which the city describes as the Wednesday before, and before 7 a.m. on the cleanup day.

Do neighborhood cleanups take mattresses?

Yes. Both the Escambia County cleanups and the City of Pensacola Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup list furniture and mattresses as accepted.
