Furniture donation in Pensacola works best when you match the piece to the right charity before you load it. The big local options, Pensacola Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Waterfront Thrift (run by Waterfront Rescue Mission) and Goodwill Gulf Coast, all accept furniture, and none of them want used mattresses. Where they differ is condition standards and whether someone comes to get it. Below is what each one posts on its own site as of October 2026, plus what to do with anything that gets turned away.
Quick comparison
| Charity | Furniture | Used mattresses | Pickup |
|---|---|---|---|
| Habitat ReStore | Sofas, chairs, dressers, bedframes, tables, bookshelves, entertainment centers | Not accepted | Free donation pickup offered on its site |
| Waterfront Thrift | Gently used indoor and outdoor furniture | Not accepted | Free pickup from your home or office |
| Goodwill Gulf Coast | Accepted at donation centers | Not accepted | Fee based pickup through a partner |

Pensacola Habitat for Humanity ReStore
The ReStore at 6931 N 9th Avenue, Suite 29, takes new and gently used home goods that are in great condition, and the sales support Pensacola Habitat for Humanity. Its furniture list includes bedframes, bookshelves, chairs, coffee and end tables, dressers, entertainment centers, filing cabinets, sofas and tables. Its donate page also has a button to schedule a free donation pickup.
The ReStore's "do not accept" list is the one to read closely. It turns away anything that does not work, needs a replacement part, is torn, has pet damage or is soiled. Specific furniture related exclusions include:
- Upholstered items with rips, stains, tears or pet odors
- Heavy executive desks
- Exercise equipment
- Pianos and organs
- Waterbeds
- Baby items
- Clothing, linens, bedding and bed pillows
The ReStore FAQ adds that used mattresses are refused for legal reasons. Donors get a receipt listing the items, but the ReStore notes it cannot assign values to them.
Waterfront Thrift (Waterfront Rescue Mission)
Waterfront Thrift accepts gently used indoor and outdoor furniture along with household goods, tools, electronics and working appliances. It does not accept used mattresses, tube TVs or computer monitors. Pickup is described as free from your home or office, scheduled by phone or online through its Ways to Donate page.
If you would rather drop off, stores take donations Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., as posted in October 2026. Local stores are at 2125 W Fairfield Drive in Pensacola, 4376 Gulf Breeze Parkway in Gulf Breeze and 4467 Avalon Boulevard in Milton. Its Recycling and Distribution Center at 388 West Herman Street takes donations on weekdays. Waterfront also lists recyclable materials such as scrap metal and aluminum among what it accepts, which can help with a broken metal bed frame or patio set.
Goodwill Gulf Coast
Goodwill Gulf Coast lists furniture among the items it accepts and runs donation centers around the area, including Bellview, East Hill, Ensley, Olive Road and Sorrento in Pensacola, plus Pace, Milton and Tiger Point. Its "cannot accept" list includes mattresses, pianos, waterbeds, non flat screen televisions and hazardous materials.
Pickup is different here: Goodwill Gulf Coast offers a fee based pickup through a partner company rather than a free charity truck. Its donation pickup page explains the scheduling.
How to tell if a piece will be accepted
Charities sell what they take, so the test is whether a stranger would pay for it as is. Before you call or load up:
- Check every cushion and seam for rips, stains and pet hair. Upholstery is where most rejections happen.
- Smell it. Pet odor and a musty, mildewed smell are both hard to sell, so air out anything that has been sitting in a closed garage.
- Make sure drawers slide, legs are solid and nothing is missing.
- Take clear photos. Some pickup schedulers ask what you are donating, and photos settle questions quickly.
If you are not sure, the ReStore's own page points people with items it cannot use toward other local nonprofits, including Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida and Waterfront Rescue Mission.
What to do with furniture that gets turned away
A torn sectional or a stained recliner still has to go somewhere. Your options:
- Curbside bulk pickup. ECUA customers can request bulk pickup online; our ECUA bulk pickup guide covers the limits.
- A sofa specific plan. Our couch removal guide walks through sleeper sofas, sectionals and recliners.
- Mattresses. Since none of the three charities take used mattresses, see mattress disposal in Pensacola.
- Haul away. Pelican Haul-Off picks up single pieces and small loads, so one rejected couch is a normal job for our junk hauling service.
