Perdido Landfill is Escambia County's public landfill, at 13009 Beulah Road in Cantonment. It is owned and run by the county's Waste Services Department, which is funded by the fees it collects rather than county tax dollars. If you live in or around Pensacola and you are hauling your own junk, this is almost certainly where it is going. Here is what to know before you load the truck. Everything below is as posted in October 2026; hours and fees change, so check the county pages or call Waste Services at 850.937.2160 before you go.
Hours as posted
| Day | Hours |
|---|---|
| Monday to Friday | 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
| Saturday | 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the landfill page (the Waste Services main page lists 7:30 a.m.) |
| Sunday | Closed |
| Household hazardous waste drop off | Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. |
The county adds an important note: if your load is large and has to be unloaded by hand, deliver it no later than 30 minutes before closing. That means 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 3 p.m. on Saturday. Large loads that arrive later have to come back the next business day.
The pages we checked do not list holiday closures, so call ahead before a holiday weekend.
Residential fees
The county's Waste Services fee schedule sets the rates. Here are the ones most households run into.
| Item | Fee as posted |
|---|---|
| Solid waste (household junk, furniture) | $45.06 per ton, $11.64 minimum |
| Yard trash | $27.62 per ton, $11.64 minimum |
| Mattresses | Solid waste rate; maximum of 4 per household |
| Car and light truck tires | $3.90 per tire; maximum of 5 per household; no business or oversized tires |
| Clean fill dirt and clean concrete (no rebar or wire) | No fee |
| Uncovered load, individual citizen | $7.02 |
| Residential recycling drop off | No fee |
| Household hazardous waste drop off | No fee |
The schedule also lists fees for load ejection help with equipment and for separating prohibited waste, both billed by the hour with a $227.56 minimum. The simplest way to avoid both is to bring only what the landfill accepts and be ready to unload yourself.
People often search for a senior discount. The posted fee schedule does not list a separate senior rate, so if that matters to you, ask Waste Services directly.
How much is the average dump fee?
There isn't one average, because the landfill charges by weight. A light load of household junk may only reach the $11.64 minimum, while a heavy load of wet carpet or solid wood furniture costs more. The ton rate makes the math simple once you know the weight: half a ton of solid waste works out to about $22.53 at the posted rate.
The fee is rarely the biggest cost of a dump run. A rented truck, fuel, tie downs, a helper and a few hours of your day usually add up to more. Our where to dump furniture guide compares the landfill with curbside bulk pickup and donation.
Household hazardous waste and split loads
Escambia County residents can drop off household hazardous waste and electronics at the landfill year round at no charge. Businesses can't use it. The county page has a map of the current drop off site, so check it before you go. The accepted list includes:
- Oil based and latex paint, up to 20 gallons
- Used oil, and antifreeze or gasoline up to 10 gallons each
- Pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, solvents and household cleaners
- Rechargeable and lithium batteries, plus auto, marine and motorcycle batteries
- Propane and scuba tanks
- Fluorescent tubes and CFLs, up to 10 per customer
- Electronics such as TVs, computers, monitors, printers and phones
Appliances, medical waste and medications are not considered HHW. If you bring a trailer with HHW and regular junk, the county calls it a split load: stop at the HHW drop off first, then continue to the Customer Convenience Center for debris, trash, appliances and electronics.
What's the best time to go to the dump?
Give yourself a buffer. Arriving well before the 30 minute cutoff for large loads means you won't be turned away, and Saturday hours are shorter than weekdays. A few more tips:
- Cover and strap the load. The uncovered load fee applies to every landfill customer, and loose items can blow out on the road.
- Sort before you leave. Put paint, chemicals and batteries where you can reach them for the HHW stop.
- Keep tires and mattresses within the limits. Five tires and four mattresses per household.
- Pay attention to the working face. The fee schedule lists a $2.50 high visibility vest as required on the landfill working face.
