Bulk Trash Pickup in Santa Rosa County: Rules for Pace and Milton

By Pelican Haul-Off ·

Santa Rosa County bulk trash pickup changed in 2025, and a lot of the advice online is out of date. On February 3, 2025, the Board of County Commissioners voted to dissolve the county's solid waste franchise agreement, effective March 1, 2025. Since then, residents in unincorporated areas like Pace pick their own garbage company and arrange service directly, and the county no longer oversees collection issues. Inside the City of Milton, the City of Gulf Breeze and the Town of Jay, garbage service did not change and is still run by each city. So the first question is simple: are you inside city limits or not?

Unincorporated Santa Rosa (Pace and most of the county)

If you live outside a city, your bulk options depend on your provider. The county's Garbage Service Provider page lists the permitted residential curbside collection companies, with phone numbers. Since the county no longer regulates them, it does not publish a single set of bulk rules.

Who do I call for bulk trash pickup?

Call the company that picks up your regular garbage. Ask:

  • Whether bulk pickup is included in your service or billed per pickup
  • How to schedule it and how far ahead
  • Size or item limits per pickup
  • Whether they take mattresses, appliances and tires, or only furniture
  • Whether items go curbside the night before or the morning of

If you don't have a provider yet, the county page is the place to start. If your provider can't help soon enough, you can take items to the Central Landfill yourself.

City of Milton

The City of Milton runs its own sanitation service. Its posted rules for regular weekly pickup are aimed at household garbage and yard waste, not furniture:

  • Yard waste: up to 25 bags and one pile per week at no additional charge. Leaves and grass must be bagged. Brush piles have length and height limits, and no single item of yard trash may weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • Anything beyond that is considered excessive, and you can either arrange disposal yourself or pay the city an additional charge to remove it.
  • The city's list of items it will not pick up includes furniture, appliances, tires, metal and construction debris, along with hazardous materials like paint, batteries and oil.

Milton's Community Cleanup

For furniture and bigger junk, Milton holds a Community Cleanup each spring. In 2026 each neighborhood had one scheduled day between March and May, with pickups on March 11 and 18, April 8 and 15, and May 6 and 13. Accepted items included appliances, electronics, furniture, mattresses, carpeting, grills without propane tanks, bicycles, toys, tires and paint cans. Building materials, chemicals, pesticides, propane tanks, auto parts, dirt, yard waste and batteries were not accepted, and items could not go to the curb more than three days early. The city's page also notes that Keep Santa Rosa Beautiful may help some residents move items to the curb. The 2026 page lists no fall cleanup, so watch the city's site for next year's dates.

Is bulk trash pickup free?

It depends on where you live. Milton's spring Community Cleanup collects bulky items at the curb, but its regular service does not take furniture or appliances, and excess amounts carry an extra charge. In unincorporated areas, cost depends on your provider's plan. The landfill always charges by weight.

The landfill option

Santa Rosa's Central Landfill is at 6337 Da Lisa Road in Milton. As posted in October 2026, it is open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with household waste at $50 per ton and a $10 minimum (rates effective January 1, 2026). Mixed loads are charged the household rate. The free Household Hazardous Waste Center sits at the landfill entrance for residents with a photo ID. Our Santa Rosa County landfill guide covers the facility, and our dump run guide covers tarps, Florida's secured load law and the real cost of doing it yourself.

When a hauler makes more sense

If your provider's next bulk day is weeks away, Milton's cleanup has passed, or the couch is upstairs, a haul away is often simpler. Pelican Haul-Off serves Pace and Milton with a pickup truck and trailer: couches, chairs, tables, dressers, bed frames, mattresses and box springs, garage clutter and move out leftovers. We don't take concrete, roofing, dirt or whole house cleanouts. Furniture in good shape may be worth donating first; see our furniture donation guide. Here is how our junk hauling service works.

Common questions

Does Santa Rosa County still have one garbage company?

No. The county dissolved its solid waste franchise agreement effective March 1, 2025. Residents in unincorporated areas choose a provider from the county's list and arrange service themselves.

Will the City of Milton pick up an old couch?

Not with regular weekly service. Milton lists furniture and appliances among items it won't pick up, but its spring Community Cleanup has accepted furniture and mattresses at the curb.

Is Pace covered by a city bulk pickup program?

Pace is unincorporated, so bulk pickup depends on the garbage company you hire. Call your provider, or take items to the Central Landfill in Milton.
