Getting Rid of Junk in Gulf Breeze: City Pickup, the Transfer Station and Haul Away

By Pelican Haul-Off ·

Junk removal in Gulf Breeze, FL starts with one fact that surprises new residents: the City of Gulf Breeze does not offer large item pickup. Your garbage cart, recycling and yard waste kart get collected, but an old sofa or mattress at the curb will not. Instead, the city runs a Waste (Trash) Transfer Station where residents can drop off furniture, appliances and yard debris for a fee. Outside city limits, in places like Tiger Point and Midway, the rules are different again. Here is how each option works.

Inside Gulf Breeze city limits

The city collects household waste by cart, curbside recycling on Fridays and yard waste on Wednesdays (in the city issued yard waste kart only). Its garbage page is direct about bulky items: "The City does not offer large item pickup service." The same page notes that many furniture and appliance retailers will dispose of your old piece for free when they deliver the new one, so ask when you buy.

For everything else, there is the transfer station.

The Gulf Breeze Waste Transfer Station

The station is at 325 South Sunset Boulevard, just south of the intersection with Shoreline Drive. It is for residential use, and scavenging is not allowed. As posted in October 2026:

DetailWhat the city posts
Spring and summer (about April to October)Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Fall and winter (about November to March)Thursday and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Santa Rosa County residents outside city limits$51 per truck load
Commercial, contractor and out of county$83
PaymentCredit or debit card only, no cash, plus a card convenience fee

The city notes that the months for each schedule may vary, so check before you go, especially in early November when hours drop to two days a week. Rates on the city page are listed as effective October 1, 2023.

What you can drop off: excess yard waste, tree limbs, trunks and stumps, non hazardous construction scraps, old furniture and appliances, plus recyclables like cardboard, plastic and metal.

What to leave home: hazardous items. For paint, chemicals, gas, propane and batteries, use the county drop off described below.

Outside city limits: Tiger Point, Midway and the rest of south Santa Rosa

If your address is Gulf Breeze but you are outside the city, your garbage service is not run by the city. Santa Rosa County dissolved its solid waste franchise effective March 1, 2025, so unincorporated residents choose their own provider from the county's list and arrange service directly, including any bulk pickup. Our Santa Rosa County bulk trash guide covers the questions to ask.

You can still use the Gulf Breeze transfer station at the county resident rate, or drive to the Santa Rosa County Central Landfill at 6337 Da Lisa Road in Milton, which charges by weight. Our Santa Rosa County landfill guide has the details.

Hazardous items and donations

Hazardous waste. Gulf Breeze is in Santa Rosa County, so the free drop off is the county's Household Hazardous Waste Center at the entrance to the Central Landfill in Milton, open Monday to Saturday as posted, for residents with a photo ID. Escambia County's free drop off at Perdido Landfill is offered to Escambia County residents, so the Santa Rosa center is the one to use.

Donations. Two donation sites are close by on Gulf Breeze Parkway: Waterfront Thrift at 4376 Gulf Breeze Parkway, which accepts gently used furniture but not used mattresses, and Goodwill Gulf Coast's Tiger Point donation center at 3021 Gulf Breeze Parkway. Our furniture donation guide covers each charity's rules.

When haul away is easier

The transfer station works well if you have a truck, a free Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, and nothing too heavy. It works less well when the piece is upstairs, you don't own a truck or trailer, or the station's days don't fit yours. That is where we come in. Pelican Haul-Off serves Gulf Breeze with a pickup truck and trailer and hauls couches, chairs, tables, dressers, bed frames, mattresses and box springs, garage clutter and move out leftovers. A single item is a normal job. We don't take concrete, roofing, dirt or whole house cleanouts. Here is how our junk hauling service works.
