Hours, fees and pickup rules change, especially after storms and at the start of a new fiscal year. Every line below links to the official page it came from. Confirm with Fort Lauderdale or Broward County before you load the truck.

Who picks up trash in Fort Lauderdale

  • Since July 31, 2023, WM (Waste Management) has collected trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk trash for the City of Fort Lauderdale.[1]
  • City curbside service covers single family homes and multi family properties with three or fewer units; larger properties arrange their own service.[1]

Bulk trash pickup in Fort Lauderdale

  • Bulk trash is picked up once a month on your scheduled bulk service day, with no separate appointment described on the city page.[1]
  • Put bulk trash at the curb by 7 a.m. on pickup day, and no earlier than 24 hours before the scheduled pickup.[1]
  • Bulk set out more than 24 hours early, or left at the curb more than 24 hours after pickup, can bring a citation.[1]
  • Each bulk pile must be no larger than 10 cubic yards.[1]
  • Tree stumps and any tree section longer than 12 feet are not collected as bulk.[1]
  • Bulk must come from your own property; items brought from elsewhere or piles combined with a neighbor's are not accepted.[1]
  • Hazardous materials or liquids, dirt, sod, sand, pavers, concrete, tiles and household garbage are not collected as bulk.[1]
  • Loose glass is not collected; glass items must be put in a sturdy, rigid container.[1]
  • Home electronics can be set out curbside on your recycling day instead of waiting for a drop off event.[2]

Fort Lauderdale trash pickup schedule

  • Use the city's interactive map to look up your current collection schedule.[1]
  • Trash is collected twice a week on your scheduled collection days.[1]
  • Recycling is collected once a week.[1]
  • Yard waste is collected once a week.[1]
  • The green yard waste cart is for leaves, grass, clippings, branches, twigs, flowers, weeds, roots and palm fronds cut to fit inside the cart.[1]
  • The city says to place carts curbside by 7:00 AM on collection day, but no later than 6:00 PM the night before your pickup.[1]
  • Keep carts at least 2 feet from other carts, cars, mailboxes, trees, storm drains and utility poles.[1]
  • For the 2025 holiday season the city listed Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, as the only observed holiday with no collection; check the page for the current year's schedule.[1]

Landfill

Broward County Landfill

Run by: Broward County Solid Waste and Recycling Services runs the Broward County Landfill and lists it for both commercial and residential customers.[7]

Address: The landfill is at 7101 SW 205th Avenue in unincorporated Broward County, 33332.[6]

Hours: The landfill is open Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.[6]

Fees

  • Residential customers dropping off waste in passenger vehicles pay $10.00 per vehicle under rates effective January 1, 2026.[6]
  • Construction and demolition material is $100.00 per ton with a $10 minimum, and pickup trucks are charged by the ton.[6]
  • The county's landfill rate table is labeled effective January 1, 2026.[6]

Accepted

  • Broward County lists the landfill as taking construction and demolition debris, bulk waste and yard debris.[7]

Not accepted

  • Household garbage, hazardous waste, biomedical waste, lead acid batteries, used oil and PCB waste are not accepted.[6]

Rules

  • The landfill only accepts waste that comes from within Broward County.[6]
  • The landfill does not take residential waste from haulers working under city franchise contracts.[6]

Run by: Broward County lists Envirocycle in Fort Lauderdale as an alternate disposal site open to commercial and residential customers.[7]

Rules

  • Broward County lists Monarch Hill as commercial only with an account required, so it is not a resident drop off.[7]

Hazardous waste disposal in Fort Lauderdale

  • The City of Fort Lauderdale holds several household hazardous waste drop off opportunities a year instead of a permanent drop off site.[2]
  • Fort Lauderdale residents may take part in the listed events and must bring proof of residency, such as a driver's license or utility bill.[2]
  • Accepted items include paint, paint thinner and stripper, motor oil, filters, fluids and gasoline.[2]
  • Pesticides, fertilizers, pool chemicals, fluorescent tubes, spot removers, oven and drain cleaners and polishes are also accepted.[2]
  • Mercury thermostats, lithium batteries, propane tanks and fuel are accepted.[2]
  • Electronics such as computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, rechargeable batteries, TVs and copy machines are accepted.[2]
  • Biohazard and medical waste, explosives, ammunition and commercial waste are not accepted.[2]
  • Furniture, stereos, musical instruments, appliances, microwaves, electric hand tools and general trash are not accepted at HHW events.[2]
  • The 2026 Fort Lauderdale event was held Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 2201 NW 9 Ave (Mills Pond Park), so watch the city calendar for the next one.[3]
  • Fort Lauderdale residents had to register in advance for the city's own event, and partner city residents were also invited to register.[3]
  • For the city event, proof of residence could be a driver's license, tax bill, TRIM notice or utility bill.[3]
  • Fort Lauderdale residents could also use a partner event in Pompano Beach on July 18, 2026, at the Northside Baseball Complex.[4]
  • As of October 7, 2026, the city's HHW registration form says registration is closed until the next scheduled event.[5]

Check with the city first

  • Fort Lauderdale's holiday schedule on the city page was written for the 2025 season, so check the current year's holiday changes before setting out carts or bulk.
  • The city does not list a permanent hazardous waste drop off, so check the city event calendar or call the Neighbor Support Center at 954-828-8000 for the next event and registration.
  • Broward County Landfill fees and rules change; bring a current driver's license and confirm rates before hauling a load.
  • After a hurricane or major storm, the city may run separate debris pickups with different rules than monthly bulk.
