Hours, fees and pickup rules change, especially after storms and at the start of a new fiscal year. Every line below links to the official page it came from. Confirm with Miami or Miami-Dade County before you load the truck.
Who picks up trash in Miami
- Inside City of Miami limits, the City of Miami Solid Waste Department collects residential garbage twice a week.[1]
- Businesses and properties with four or more units in the City of Miami must arrange garbage and recycling service with one of the city approved franchise commercial haulers.[2]
- Miami-Dade County's neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers are only for county waste fee customers in unincorporated Miami-Dade and a listed group of cities, and the City of Miami is not on that list.[5]
Bulk trash pickup in Miami
- The City of Miami picks up residential bulky trash once a week; use the city address search to find your day.[1]
- Bulky trash collection covers household furniture such as bed frames, dressers, tables, chairs, sofas, mattresses and large empty boxes.[3]
- White goods such as refrigerators, stoves, microwaves and dishwashers are accepted as bulky trash.[3]
- Household electronics such as monitors, printers, laptops, TVs and small kitchen appliances are accepted as bulky trash.[3]
- Bulky items must be securely tied in bundles no longer than 3 feet and no heavier than 50 pounds.[1]
- Bulky trash other than clean vegetative waste can go out the evening before, and no later than 6:00 AM on service day.[2]
- Tree trimming waste piles larger than 100 cubic feet, about 5 by 5 by 4 feet, may not be left on the public right of way.[2]
- Yard trash must be kept separate from garbage and recyclables and should not go in the blue recycling bins.[1]
- Construction and demolition debris such as roofing, drywall, cabinets, tile, carpet, tubs and toilets is not accepted as bulky trash.[3]
- Paint, paint containers and painting equipment are not accepted as bulky trash.[3]
- Auto parts such as tires, auto glass, vehicle batteries, engine oil and radiator fluid are not accepted as bulky trash.[3]
- Hazardous items such as propane and oxygen tanks, chemicals, pesticides, light bulbs and batteries are not accepted as bulky trash.[3]
- If your bulky trash day falls on Christmas or Martin Luther King Jr. Day, pickup moves to your next scheduled bulky day.[1]
- To report illegal dumping in a City of Miami neighborhood, call 311 or use the city's online form.[1]
Miami trash pickup schedule
- Enter your address in the City of Miami address search to see your garbage, recycling and bulky trash days.[1]
- The City of Miami Department of Solid Waste closes only on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Christmas Day.[1]
- If garbage day falls on Christmas or Martin Luther King Jr. Day, garbage is collected on the next scheduled pickup day.[1]
- Recycling is collected twice a month, which the city notes is not the same as every other week.[2]
- Check your recycling calendar for make up dates when recycling day falls on a closure holiday.[1]
- Put garbage carts out 12 to 24 hours before the morning of pickup.[1]
- Carts must sit at least five feet from trees, cars, light poles and other obstructions.[1]
- Carts must be taken back in within 24 hours after pickup to avoid a citation.[1]
- Report a missed garbage pickup by contacting 311.[1]

Drop off center
City of Miami Mini Dump Facility
Run by: The Mini Dump is run by the City of Miami Department of Solid Waste and is open to all City of Miami residents.[3]
Address: The Mini Dump is at 1290 NW 20 Street in Miami.[3]
Hours: The Mini Dump is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.[3]
Accepted
- Residents can drop off bulky items and yard trash.[3]
Not accepted
- Vehicles with commercial markings, dump or panel trucks, commercial trucks or vans, and contractor materials are refused.[3]
Rules
- Bring one proof of City of Miami residency, such as a Florida driver's license or ID, three months of utility statements, a rental agreement or a tax bill.[3]
- Residents are limited to one trip per day, and each trip can be no more than a pickup truck load.[3]
- The Mini Dump is closed Sunday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Christmas Day.[3]
Landfill
North Dade Landfill
Run by: Miami-Dade County runs this Class III, trash only landfill just south of the Broward County line.[8]

Hours: The county lists the North Dade Landfill as open every day, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.[8]

Fees
- The county's non contract disposal rate is $119.51 per ton; the fee page says rates are effective as of Oct. 1 without showing a year.[10]
- Waste tires are charged $140 per ton.[10]
- Loads are weighed in and out at the scale house, and the weight difference sets the disposal cost.[8]
Accepted
- Haulers can deliver trash like old furniture, lumber, crates, large off road tires, cardboard, yard trash and construction and demolition debris.[8]

South Dade Landfill
Run by: Miami-Dade County runs this Class I garbage landfill in southeast Miami-Dade near Black Point Marina.[8]

Fees
- Asbestos is $100 per ton at the South Dade Landfill only, plus a special handling fee, and needs an appointment first.[10]
Accepted
- County, municipal and private haulers can bring garbage, tires, animal carcasses, trash, yard trash, construction debris and asbestos.[8]
Transfer station
Central Transfer Station
Run by: Miami-Dade County runs this transfer station near Miami's Civic Center area, mainly for county, municipal and private waste haulers.[9]
Address: The Central Transfer Station is at 1150 NW 20th St, Miami.[9]
Hours: The county lists its transfer stations as open Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.[9]
Fees
- A per ton transfer fee is added to the disposal fee at the regional transfer stations: $17.20 at the contract rate and $17.86 at the non contract rate.[10]
Rules
- The county page carries a notice that the Central Transfer Station was temporarily closed for about four weeks starting April 17, with no year shown, so confirm it is open before you go.[9]
Hazardous waste disposal in Miami
- The City of Miami sends residents to the Miami-Dade County Home Chemical Collection Centers for oil based paint, pesticides, solvents and pool chemicals.[4]
- The city says the centers are available to non commercial residents only.[4]
- For hours and the closest center, the city lists (305) 468-5900.[4]
- Miami-Dade also holds free Home Chemical Drop-Off Mobile Events that are open to all county residents.[7]
- Mobile events run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the 2026 schedule lists a Nov. 14 event at the Sunset Kendall Trash and Recycling Center.[7]
- Bring a valid Florida driver's license or ID to a mobile event to verify your address.[7]
- Mobile events also take lead acid and rechargeable batteries, automotive fluids, household cleaners, gasoline and used motor oil, but gas and oil containers cannot be emptied there.[7]
- Mobile events do not take business or government waste, explosives, biohazardous waste, appliances or microwave ovens.[7]
- Dried out latex paint can go in your waste cart once it is solid.[6]
- The City of Miami also holds electronics recycling opportunities during the year and accepts most tabletop electronics and batteries.[1]

Check with the city first
- Fees, hours and holiday closures at Miami-Dade County facilities change, so call the facility or 311 before you load up.
- The City of Miami Mini Dump requires proof of city residency, and county Trash and Recycling Centers do not list the City of Miami as an eligible city, so confirm which site you can use.
- The county disposal fee page and the Central Transfer Station closure notice do not show a year, so confirm current rates and status.
- After a hurricane or major storm, the city may announce special debris pickup rules that replace normal bulky trash limits.
