Who picks up trash in Jacksonville
- Household trash in Jacksonville is collected by a City crew in one area and by contracted haulers in the others: Meridian Waste in Service Areas 1 and 2 and Waste Pro in Service Area 3.[2]
- The City's Solid Waste Division administers contracts with three private haulers for residential garbage, yard waste and recycling collection.[1]
- To find out which hauler serves your address, the City points residents to its service area map or 630-CITY (904-630-2489).[2]
- Collection is paid through a residential solid waste fee billed as a non ad valorem assessment on the property tax bill.[12]
- The City lists the 2026 residential solid waste fee as $29.50 per month, or $354 per year, per premise.[12]
- Parcels with more than four residential structures are not eligible for City residential collection.[12]
Bulk trash pickup in Jacksonville
- Jacksonville defines bulk items as large household items that will not fit in a City issued garbage cart because of their volume, size, shape or weight.[4]
- The City says bulk collection varies by item type and by service area, so check your own schedule.[4]
- In areas without automated garbage carts (residents use their own cans), bulk items are collected weekly on the same day as household garbage.[5]
- In areas with City issued automated garbage carts, the City's quick reference guide says bulk items are collected every other week.[6]
- Accepted bulk items include mattresses, sofas, chairs, other furniture and barbecue grills.[4]
- Glass such as mirrors and table tops must be wrapped and taped, and rolled carpet and padding can be no longer than five feet.[4]
- Set bulk items out no later than 6 a.m. on collection day and place them within five feet of the curb.[4]
- Appliances and tires are not regular bulk: they must be scheduled ahead by calling 630-CITY (2489) or booking online.[3]
- Scheduled appliance pickup covers refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, water heaters, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, air conditioners, furnaces, heaters and flat panel TVs; remove or secure doors and empty out food first.[10]
- Scheduled curbside tire pickup is limited to four standard vehicle tires, with or without rims, and oversized tires are not allowed.[11]
- In the City and Meridian (non automated) areas, homeowners doing small projects can put out up to one cubic yard of building materials weekly on garbage day, with pieces no longer than 5 feet and no heavier than 40 pounds.[3]
- In the Waste Pro automated area, homeowners can put out up to two cubic yards of building materials every other week on bulk collection day.[3]
- Debris from work done by a hired contractor must be removed by that contractor, and the City says it is unlawful to leave it for City collection.[3]
- For larger amounts of construction debris, the City says you need to hire a rubbish removal company to provide a container.[3]
Jacksonville trash pickup schedule
- To find your collection day, use the City's online lookup on MyJax: type your address in the search box or drag the map pin, and your schedule is shown below the map.[8]
- If you have a MyJax account with your current address, your hauler and collection schedule also show under My Info after you log in.[8]
- You can also confirm your schedule by phone at 630-CITY (904-630-2489).[3]
- The Jax Waste Wizard lets you look up your collection day, print a calendar, sign up for service alerts and search how to dispose of an item.[7]
- The Jax Waste Wizard app can send email, Twitter or phone reminders before your garbage and recycling pickup.[9]
- Household garbage is collected weekly and must be out by 6 a.m. on collection day.[3]
- The City's quick reference guide says garbage and yard waste are collected weekly and recycling every other week.[6]
- Do not set waste out before 5 p.m. the day before collection, and bring empty containers in by 6 a.m. the day after.[2]
- In the City and Meridian areas, garbage goes out in your own bags or cans with handles and lids, each no larger than 45 gallons and no heavier than 40 pounds.[3]
- In the Waste Pro area, garbage must go in the City issued cart with the lid fully closed; extra waste waits for the next week.[3]
- Collection schedules change only for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, no matter how many days City offices are closed.[7]
- For Thanksgiving 2026 (Thursday, November 26), Thursday customers will be serviced on Saturday, November 28, 2026.[7]
- For Christmas 2026 (Friday, December 25), Friday customers will be serviced on Saturday, December 26, 2026.[7]
- Yard waste is collected weekly, must be kept apart from garbage and out of the City carts, and is limited to five cubic yards, roughly 30 bags of 32 gallons.[17]

- Trail Ridge Landfill fees and hours are taken from the City's Disposal Operations page and can change; call ahead before hauling a load, especially on Saturdays.
- The City's contact page lists a different landfill phone number than the Disposal Operations page, so try both if one does not answer.
- Storm debris after a hurricane follows separate City instructions; check the City's announcements rather than normal bulk rules.
