Who picks up trash in Melbourne

  • WM (Waste Management) is the City of Melbourne's hauler for garbage, recycling and yard waste collection.[1]
  • WM customer service can be reached at 321-723-4455 or centralfloridaservice@wm.com.[1]
  • For questions or concerns about service, the city's Environmental Community Outreach (ECO) Division answers at 321-608-5080.[1]
  • The cart with the green lid is for garbage and the cart with the yellow lid is for recycling.[1]
  • New residents can request a 96, 64 or 35 gallon cart; extra carts cost $70 each from Waste Management and a size swap costs $25.[1]

Bulk trash pickup in Melbourne

  • You may set bulky items at the curb on your yard waste collection day.[1]
  • Bulky items include furniture, bicycles and other items too large to fit in the green lidded garbage cart.[1]
  • Keep bulky items 3 feet away from storm drains, yard waste, garbage carts and other obstructions.[1]
  • Specialty bulky items (appliances, electronics and tires) must be scheduled on WM's Bulk Trash Pickup page, by calling WM at 321-723-4455 or the ECO Division at 321-608-5080, or by emailing recycle@mlbfl.org.[1]
  • Appliances such as refrigerators, stoves and washers need the door removed and all contents taken out before pickup.[1]
  • Remove all batteries from electronics before pickup and take the batteries to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at the Sarno Landfill.[1]
  • Residents may dispose of four standard vehicle tires per year through the specialty pickup.[1]
  • WM does not collect wood fencing or other construction and demolition material at the curb as part of regular service.[1]
  • For construction and demolition material, WM can schedule a curbside collection on request for an additional charge.[1]
  • Another option the city lists for construction debris is a WM Bagster bag, sold at home improvement stores and rated for up to 3,300 pounds.[1]
  • Large yard waste piles can be scheduled for a special bulk collection with the clam truck through WM or the ECO Division.[1]
  • Yard waste created by landscape contractors or tree removal workers must be hauled away by the contractor, not the city's hauler.[1]

Melbourne trash pickup schedule

  • Enter your address in the city's interactive map to see your collection days for garbage, recycling, bulk items and yard waste.[1]
  • All recycling is collected on Wednesdays.[1]
  • WM observes Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and homes affected by a holiday are served on the next regularly scheduled collection day.[1]
  • Do not put carts or yard waste cans at the curb until after 5 p.m. the day before collection.[1]
  • To be sure of pickup, have carts at the curb by 6 a.m. on collection day.[1]
  • Containerized yard waste is collected once a week, in plastic or metal containers of no more than 40 gallons that weigh no more than 50 pounds.[1]
  • Branches must be cut to four feet or less, and yard waste is not accepted in plastic or paper bags.[1]
  • Large, properly stacked yard waste piles should be picked up within 5 days of the regular yard waste collection date.[1]
  • If a hurricane threat closes the Brevard County landfills, WM collections stop at that time.[1]

  • The City of Melbourne's trash page does not list a price for regular curbside bulky item pickup, so ask WM or the ECO Division whether your items qualify and whether a charge applies before you set them out.
  • Brevard County pages give several different street numbers for the Central Disposal Facility on Adamson Road in Cocoa, so confirm the address before driving there.
  • Landfill hours, accepted materials and resident disposal rules can change, especially around hurricanes, so call Brevard County Solid Waste before hauling a load.
  • A county notice about the Mockingbird Way facility in Titusville ran through August 2026, so check whether that site has reopened for vegetation, metals and tires.

We left these out because we could not read them on an official page when we checked:
