Hours, fees and pickup rules change, especially after storms and at the start of a new fiscal year. Every line below links to the official page it came from. Confirm with Ocala or Marion County before you load the truck.
Who picks up trash in Ocala
- The City of Ocala Sanitation Division collects trash inside city limits, and city code says solid waste other than C&D debris and recyclables must be collected only by the city.[1]
- The city says its Sanitation division serves more than 17,600 single family homes, 9,000 multifamily units and 4,100 businesses.[1]
- Residential sanitation can be reached at 352-351-6697 and the Sanitation Hotline at 352-351-6698.[1]
- The Sanitation office is at 2100 NE 30th Ave., Building 200, and keeps office hours of 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.[1]
- Marion County itself does not offer curbside pickup, so addresses outside city limits contract with private franchise haulers.[8]
Bulk trash pickup in Ocala
- The city provides garbage, yard waste and bulk collection one day each week.[2]
- An older city sanitation guide (it still describes curbside recycling, which ended July 6, 2026) says to call 352-351-6697 one to two days before your collection day to schedule bulk pickup.[4]
- That guide lists furniture, appliances, mattresses, large tree and landscaping debris piles and large junk piles as bulk items.[4]
- The same guide says charges apply when a bulk pile exceeds 5 cubic yards.[4]
- The city's posted sanitation fee schedule lists bulk collection labor at $8.75 per quarter hour.[3]
- The fee schedule lists bulk collection disposal at $35.00 per quarter truckload.[3]
- The fee schedule lists white good collection at $13.50 per appliance.[3]
- White goods include any household appliance, water heater or air conditioning unit, and you contact the city office to schedule a date.[4]
- Refrigerators set out for collection must have the door removed and should lie on their side.[4]
- Construction debris such as concrete, brick, tile and shingles must go in a private roll off container or to a C&D landfill.[4]
- Private contractors are responsible for removing the waste they generate.[4]
- Marion County says furniture may also be disposed of at the Baseline Landfill for a fee.[11]
Ocala trash pickup schedule
- Residential collection runs mainly Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.[2]
- Limited service runs on Fridays unless there is a major holiday that week.[2]
- The city posts a residential route map, and for holiday sanitation information it asks residents to call 352-351-6697.[1]
- Since July 6, 2026 the city has used drop off recycling instead of curbside recycling, and old recycling carts became garbage carts.[5]
- City drop off recycling sites include Mary Sue Rich Community Center, Ocala Regional Sportsplex, Polly Palmer Park and Jervey Gantt Park.[5]
- City code allows up to two garbage carts per household.[5]
- Recycling dumpsters take cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and jugs, and metal and aluminum cans, but not plastic bags, glass, electronics or hazardous waste.[6]
- The older city guide says carts must be out by 7:00 a.m. on collection day.[4]

Hazardous waste disposal in Ocala

- Special waste means household hazardous waste and electronics, neither of which is picked up with regular residential collection.[7]
- Amnesty day examples include lawn chemicals, paint, thinners, gasoline, fluorescent bulbs, used oil, auto batteries and pool chemicals.[7]
- Special waste from businesses is not collected at the amnesty event.[7]

- The county's list of items accepted at Baseline household hazardous waste includes adhesives, antifreeze, bleach, caulk and detergent, along with pesticides and pool chemicals.[11]

Check with the city first
- Ocala ended curbside recycling on July 6, 2026, so older guides that mention recycling carts are out of date.
- The city's printed bulk and white goods prices differ between its older guide and its current fee schedule, so call 352-351-6697 for the price before you set items out.
- Marion County raised Baseline gate rates and some county pages still show older prices, so confirm the fee with Solid Waste at 352-671-8465 before you haul a load.
- County recycling centers and some county drop off programs are tied to the county solid waste assessment, so city residents should confirm eligibility or a permit before driving out.
