  • Residents pay for trash and recycling once a year through the solid waste assessment on their property tax bill.[7]
  • The city lists the annual assessment as rising by $20.89 to $467.33 from $446.44.[7]
  • The city's Office of Solid Waste is reached through 1PSL at 772-871-1775, press 5, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.[1]
  • Homes get a city issued black garbage cart and a green recycling cart, and residents must use city issued carts.[1]
  • Extra carts cost $84 a year for garbage and $70 a year for recycling, and swapping cart size is a one time $75 fee.[6]

Bulk trash pickup in Port St. Lucie

  • Bulk waste is collected once a month on the same day as your regular pickup.[2]
  • The bulk limit is two cubic yards per month, about the size of two standard front load washers.[2]
  • A bulk pile larger than two cubic yards is tagged and left at the curb, and the property owner must arrange removal.[2]
  • Accepted bulk items include furniture, mattresses, exercise equipment, broken down swing sets and basketball goals, refrigerators, stoves and other household appliances.[2]
  • Bulk pickup does not take contractor or commercial hauler materials, concrete, land clearing debris, bagged garbage, hazardous waste, vehicle or boat parts, tires, engines, gas powered equipment that needs fuel drained, gas tanks, or oil paint.[2]
  • Latex paint can go out only with the lid off and the paint dried and hardened.[2]
  • Keep carts and bulk piles three feet away from mailboxes, utility poles, trees, hydrants and other carts.[2]
  • Extra bulk pickups cost $18.50 per cubic yard for pickup and disposal; call 1PSL at 772-871-1775 and press 5 to schedule or get an estimate.[2]
  • Residents may also hire any disposal service they choose instead of the city's extra pickup.[2]
  • Contractors, landscapers, tree services and handymen working on a home must haul away and lawfully dispose of the debris they create.[1]
  • Yard waste is collected weekly with a 4 cubic yard limit, and larger piles are tagged and not collected.[5]
  • Limbs, logs and stumps cannot be more than 6 inches across, 4 feet long or 50 pounds per piece, except palm fronds.[5]
  • Extra yard waste pickups are also $18.50 per cubic yard through 1PSL.[5]
  • The city permanently closed its Convenient Drop-off Center at 1501 SW Cameo Boulevard effective Jan. 5, 2026.[8]

  • Search your address on the city's collection map, call 772-871-1775 and press 5, or ask at the City Hall front desk to find your day.[3]
  • Put carts out no later than 7 a.m. on pickup day and no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before, and remove them the same day after service.[4]
  • All garbage must be bagged and fit in the cart with the lid closed.[1]
  • Recyclables go loose, not bagged, in the green cart and must be empty, clean and dry.[1]
  • Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only holidays that change collection; service shifts forward one day for that week.[3]
