St. Petersburg bulk trash pickup, landfill and trash schedule

Hours, fees and pickup rules change, especially after storms and at the start of a new fiscal year. Every line below links to the official page it came from. Confirm with St. Petersburg or Pinellas County before you load the truck.

Who picks up trash in St. Petersburg

  • The City of St. Petersburg Sanitation Department collects household trash from more than 76,000 residential accounts, using alley or curbside containers.[1]
  • The standard residential sanitation rate for most customers is $34.29 per month, billed by the city.[4]
  • Single family homes get one 90 gallon container, and extra containers are available for an added charge.[1]
  • For missed residential collection, the city lists the Sanitation Department line 727-893-7334.[4]

Bulk trash pickup in St. Petersburg

  • Large or excess items do not go loose at the curb; the city asks you to arrange a Special Pickup instead.[2]
  • Furniture, carpet and appliances are picked up free, up to 3 cubic yards.[2]
  • Other free Special Pickup items are car batteries (up to 5), car tires (up to 5) and doors (up to 2).[2]
  • Empty 20 lb propane tanks (up to 2), kitchen cabinets (up to 2) and windows (up to 2) are also picked up free.[2]
  • Items outside the free list, such as large amounts of accumulated waste, building materials and brush, cost $25.65 per cubic yard.[2]
  • Request a Special Pickup through SeeClickFix, and adding a photo helps speed up the request; you can also call 727-893-7398.[2]
  • For paid items, the Sanitation Department gives an estimate based on quantity before pickup.[2]
  • Put Special Pickup items where your trash is normally collected: in the alley if you have alley service, or at the curb if you have curb service.[2]
  • The city also says TVs, furniture and computer equipment can go out by free Special Pickup.[1]

St. Petersburg trash pickup schedule

  • Most residential customers get trash pickup twice a week.[4]
  • Homes with one or two people that use 5,000 gallons of water or less per month may qualify for once a week trash collection.[1]
  • Zone calendars are mailed at the start of each year and posted on the city's Collection Schedule page; call Sanitation Customer Service at 727-893-7838 if you need one.[1]
  • The St. Pete Collects app shows your personal collection schedule and sends alerts when holidays or bad weather change pickups.[1]
  • On Christmas Day 2026 (Friday, Dec. 25), Thursday pickups move to Wednesday and Friday pickups move to Thursday.[1]
  • Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026) does not change collection days.[1]
  • City brush sites close on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.[1]

Landfill

Pinellas County Solid Waste Disposal Complex (Bridgeway Acres Landfill and Waste-to-Energy Facility)

Run by: The Solid Waste Disposal Complex in St. Petersburg is run by Pinellas County Solid Waste and receives the county's trash.[5]

Address: The complex is at 3095 114th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, FL 33716.[7]

Hours: The disposal complex and scalehouse are open Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Sundays.[6]

Fees

  • As of Oct. 1, 2026, the disposal fee rose from $58.86 to $63.57 per ton.[7]
  • Cars, pickup trucks and vans pay flat fees: $11.75 per load for pickups and vans and $4.25 per load for cars.[7]
  • Flat fees do not apply to modified vehicles such as pickups with sidewalls; larger vehicles and anything towing a trailer pay by the ton.[7]
  • Customers without an account who pay by the ton have a deposit of 35% of the vehicle's loaded weight held up front, and must reweigh after unloading or the hold is charged.[7]
  • Loads with five or more tires are weighed in and out at $210 per ton.[7]
  • For a limited time, the county is waiving the tire disposal fee for household tires from September 28, 2026, to October 30, 2026, for Pinellas County residents with up to four tires per load.[7]
  • Extra charges include a $110 per load special handling fee and a $100 per load contractor surcharge for materials that need extra processing.[7]

Accepted

  • Tires up to 36 inches are accepted whole; larger tires must be cut into quarters.[7]
  • Asbestos, sludge, dead animals, soil, treated lumber, boats and industrial process waste are taken only by appointment at (727) 464-7500.[7]

Not accepted

  • Vehicles (including campers and mobile homes), biological waste, explosives, liquid waste and radioactive waste are prohibited and will be rejected.[7]
  • Gasoline, fuel oil and hazardous waste are refused here but accepted from residents at the HHW Center.[7]

Rules

  • Bridgeway Acres is Pinellas County's only landfill; most trash is burned at the Waste-to-Energy Facility and the ash and unburnable trash are landfilled.[5]
  • Payment is by Solid Waste Disposal Account, tap to pay, or American Express, Mastercard or Visa cards.[7]
  • The complex is closed on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26, 2026) and Christmas Day (Friday, December 25, 2026).[6]

Drop off center

City of St. Petersburg Brush and Recycling Sites

Run by: The City of St. Petersburg runs five brush sites for residents to drop off yard waste and select recyclables.[3]

Address: The five brush sites are at 1000 62nd Ave. NE, 7750 26th Ave. N, 2500 26th Ave. S, 4015 Dr. Martin Luther King St. S, and 2453 20th Ave. N.[3]

Hours: All brush sites are open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week, and close on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.[3]

Fees

  • Drop off at the brush sites is free for St. Pete residents.[2]

Accepted

  • Accepted materials include grass clippings, brush, trimmings, authorized recyclables, mixed metals, appliances and cement roofing tiles.[3]

Not accepted

  • Yard waste must not contain plastics, metal or lumber.[3]
  • Plastic bags, thin plastic packaging and Styrofoam are not accepted as recycling at the brush sites.[3]

Rules

  • Use is limited to properties that pay an active city sanitation charge, and you must show proof of residency such as a driver's license.[3]
  • Logs are accepted only at 2500 26th Ave. S, and logs over 300 pounds, 34 inches in diameter or 60 inches long are refused.[3]
  • Loads from yard services or contractors need the property owner present or a signed Brush Site Consent Form for each day's delivery.[3]

Hazardous waste disposal in St. Petersburg

  • St. Pete residents can drop off household chemicals free at the county HHW Center at 2855 109th Avenue N.[8]
  • Pack chemicals in a box or tray with crumpled newspaper and do not mix chemicals together.[8]
  • Carry chemicals in the trunk or truck bed, away from passengers.[8]
  • Quantities over the limits are referred to the county's Business Collection Events.[8]
  • The free Swap Shop at the HHW Center gives away reusable paint, cleaners and automotive fluids to Pinellas County residents.[8]
  • Because the HHW Center no longer takes electronics, St. Pete residents can use the city's free Special Pickup for TVs and computer equipment.[1]
  • The city also hosts household chemical collection events; the county lists 2026 St. Petersburg events on March 7 and Sept. 5, with questions to (727) 893-7398.[8]

Pinellas County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Center

Run by: Pinellas County Solid Waste runs the Household Hazardous Waste Program, which takes household chemicals for free.[8]

Address: The HHW Center is at 2855 109th Avenue N., St. Petersburg.[8]

Hours: The HHW Center is open Tuesday through Friday and the first and third Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on county holidays.[8]

Accepted

  • Accepted items include oil and antifreeze (5 gallons each) and gasoline or diesel (two 5 gallon DOT containers total).[8]
  • Paints, stains and solvents are limited to 20 one gallon and 5 five gallon containers total.[8]
  • Lawn and pool chemicals, aerosols, cleaners, fluorescent bulbs (up to 12), flares and many household batteries are also accepted.[8]

Not accepted

  • Electronics such as TVs, monitors and printers are not accepted, nor are fire extinguishers, propane tanks over one pound, appliances, medicine, sharps or vehicle batteries.[8]
  • Electronics are no longer recycled at the HHW Center or HHW North.[6]

Rules

  • The program is for Pinellas County households only, and your government issued ID is scanned to verify residency.[8]
  • Commercial or industrial grade materials are not accepted, and limits are per vehicle per day.[8]

Hazardous waste drop off

Pinellas County HHW North

Address: HHW North is at 29582 U.S. 19 N., Clearwater, behind the Pinellas County Government Center.[8]

Hours: HHW North opens on select Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; remaining 2026 dates on the county schedule include Oct. 10, Oct. 24, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.[8]

Rules

  • At HHW North you stay in your vehicle with items in the trunk, truck bed or trailer, and collections may be canceled for bad weather.[8]

Check with the city first

  • Pinellas County raised its disposal fee on Oct. 1, 2026, and the tire fee waiver ends Oct. 30, 2026, so confirm current fees before you haul a load.
  • The city's 2026 holiday list shows Thanksgiving as Nov. 27 while the county lists Nov. 26, so check the St. Pete Collects app for your actual Thanksgiving week pickup.
  • HHW North dates change and can be canceled for weather, so check the county HHW calendar before driving there.
  • After storms the city and county often run separate debris rules, so check current notices before setting out storm debris.
