Who picks up trash in West Palm Beach
- The City of West Palm Beach Public Works Solid Waste division collects residential household garbage and yard waste and bulk items.[1]
- Recycling bins are provided by the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County and recycling is picked up by Waste Pro.[1]
- The city's Solid Waste office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at (561) 822-2075; the 24 hour line is (561) 822-2222.[1]
- The FY 2026/2027 city fee for a single family home is $23.85 a month, which includes trash pickup twice a week and yard and bulk pickup once a week.[7]
- Single family recycling is billed separately at $5.08 a month for weekly recycling pickup in the FY 2026/2027 schedule.[7]
Bulk trash pickup in West Palm Beach
- The city provides bulk collection to residents of single family homes, and up to three items are picked up on your bulk pickup day.[2]
- Bulk items are picked up once a week.[2]
- More than three bulk items needs a paid special pickup, scheduled by emailing publicworks@wpb.org or calling (561) 822-2075.[2]
- The FY 2026/2027 fee schedule lists special collection pickups at a $150.00 fixed trip fee per request plus a variable landfill fee as assessed by the Solid Waste Authority, and a $25.00 charge for not cancelling at least 24 hours before the scheduled pickup.[7]
- Bulk items include tables and chairs, gym equipment, household items, mattresses and box springs, large toys, grills, sofas and large and small appliances.[2]
- Remove doors from large appliances and tape glass doors diagonally from corner to corner before setting them out.[2]
- Freon items such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must go out on your vegetation pickup day, and they are the only items that may sit next to the vegetation pile.[2]
- Bulk pickup will not take building materials, commercially generated waste, propane tanks, water tanks, drums, vehicle equipment, or wood fencing, decks and concrete.[2]
- Construction material such as cabinets, sinks, toilets, roofing, fencing, drywall and concrete is not part of regular service; the city picks it up for an additional fee on request.[2]
- Contractors must haul away construction material they generate, and do it yourself homeowners can take it to the Solid Waste Authority landfill or another SWA permitted facility.[2]
- New residents get a one time courtesy pickup of moving boxes within 30 days of moving in if they call ahead; boxes must be empty, broken down and tied.[2]
- Carpet and pad must be rolled into lengths of four feet or less, with no more than five rolls at the curb at one time.[5]
- The city picks up two tires once a year per residence when you schedule with Public Works; more than two tires a year costs extra.[5]
- Yard waste goes in one pile in front of the home, no larger than 4 by 4 by 18 feet.[5]
- Branches and limbs must be no longer than four feet and no thicker than six inches, and grass, leaves and small clippings must be bagged.[2]
- A vegetation pile larger than ten cubic yards is a violation subject to a fee; call (561) 822-2075 to schedule a pickup.[2]
- Each year, typically in April or May before hurricane season, Vegetation Amnesty days let residents set out unlimited yard waste at no charge on their regular yard waste day.[2]
- The city fee schedule lists a $600.00 per offense charge for bulk items or vegetation placed out after a hurricane watch or warning is issued.[7]
West Palm Beach trash pickup schedule
- Pickups run Monday through Saturday; use the city's interactive Pickup Schedule to look up your trash, recycling and bulk and yard waste days.[1]
- If a regular pickup is missed, call customer service at (561) 822-2075.[1]
- Put your garbage can at the curb the night before collection, but no earlier than 6 p.m., at least ten feet from yard trash, poles and mailboxes.[3]
- Bag and tie all garbage, keep the lid closed, and do not place bags on top of or beside the cart.[3]
- On the holiday schedule, a one day delay means service shifts by one day for the rest of that week.[4]
- Where the holiday schedule shows no service, pickup resumes on your next scheduled service day.[4]

Customer Convenience Drop-Off Center at North County Landfill
Run by: The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County runs the drop-off center, where members of the public may haul waste directly to the North County Landfill.[8]

- Vehicles and loads are weighed in and out to set the tipping fee.[8]
- SWA rates effective 10/1/2026 list garbage at $42.00 per ton and trash at 42.00 per ton.[13]
- Construction debris and large vegetation is 95.00 per ton and vegetation is 35.00 per ton under the 10/1/2026 rates.[13]
- White goods (appliances) are 10.00 per ton under the 10/1/2026 rates.[13]
- The minimum charge is $20.00, and an unsecured load surcharge of $10.00 applies.[13]
Accepted
- The landfill accepts items that transfer stations turn away, such as concrete, tires, animals and other loads needing special handling.[13]
- Trash at the trash rate means household waste such as furniture, appliances, textiles, plastics and similar items found in a household garage.[13]
Rules
- Pay with cash or a Visa, Mastercard or Discover card at the scale house; cash customers pay a deposit and get any excess refunded at weigh out.[12]
- All SWA disposal locations close on Thanksgiving and Christmas and on Sundays.[13]
- Loads must be secured with a rope, tarp or similar cover, or an unsecured load fee is charged.[13]
- Mixed loads are charged at the higher waste category rate.[13]

- Fees follow the same countywide SWA tipping fee schedule, which applies to all SWA facilities.[13]
Not accepted
- Transfer stations cannot take concrete, block, brick, tile, roofing, construction lumber, tires with rims, dirt, sod, stumps and similar materials; the landfill takes these.[13]

Hazardous waste disposal in West Palm Beach
- The city does not pick up hazardous waste because it needs special handling.[1]
- Do not put household hazardous waste in your brown garbage cart.[6]
- Palm Beach County residents can drop off household hazardous waste free at any of the SWA's seven Home Chemical and Recycling Centers.[11]
- There is no curbside collection for household hazardous waste; it must be brought to a center.[11]
- Centers accept items such as automotive fluids, lithium and rechargeable batteries, electronics, fluorescent bulbs, cleaners, paints and solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals and propane cylinders.[11]
- Limits are 30 gallons of gasoline at the West Palm Beach and western Delray Beach centers, 25 gallons of oil and 10 fluorescent bulbs.[11]
- Centers do not take EV batteries, empty containers, explosives, garbage, prescription medications, radioactive waste, sharps or tires.[11]
- Alkaline batteries can go in the garbage, but lithium batteries must go to a center or other drop-off location.[11]

- Special pickup fees and SWA tipping fees are set each fiscal year, so confirm the current amount with West Palm Beach Public Works or the SWA before you haul.
- SWA hours differ by site and all sites close on Sundays, Thanksgiving and Christmas; check the facility page before driving out.
- Do not set out bulk items or yard waste once a hurricane watch or warning is issued, and check the city for storm debris rules after a storm.
