Hours, fees and pickup rules change, especially after storms and at the start of a new fiscal year. Every line below links to the official page it came from. Confirm with Milton or Santa Rosa County before you load the truck.
Who picks up trash in Milton
- Santa Rosa County says garbage pickup for City of Milton residents is managed by the city, not by the county's permitted private haulers.[8]
- In Milton, sanitation is a division of the City of Milton Public Works Department, alongside streets, utilities and other divisions.[1]
- City Public Works can be reached at 850-983-5400, extension 1200, during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.[1]
- City roll out containers are for household garbage only; yard trash may not be mixed in with garbage.[2]
Bulk trash pickup in Milton
- Milton's regular sanitation service does not pick up white goods such as stoves, water heaters, washers and dryers, or brown goods such as televisions, mattresses and other furniture.[2]
- Tires, metal items such as auto parts, and construction materials and debris are also on the city's list of items not available for regular pickup.[2]
- The city says it will notify you if items you set out for collection may not be picked up.[2]
- For bulky items, the city runs an annual Community Cleanup in which Sanitation Services collects eligible items left at the curb instead of residents hauling them to a drop off site.[3]
- In 2026 each city neighborhood had one scheduled cleanup day between March and May, with pickup dates of March 11, March 18, April 8, April 15, May 6 and May 13.[3]
- Cleanup items may not go to the curb sooner than three days before your neighborhood's cleanup day.[3]
- The 2026 cleanup accepted household appliances (refrigerators emptied and clean), electronics, furniture and mattresses, carpeting, grills without propane tanks, bicycles and toys, tires, and old paint and cans.[3]
- The cleanup did not accept building materials such as concrete, bricks, roofing, drywall and lumber, or chemicals, auto parts, propane tanks, dirt, batteries, household garbage, yard waste or hazardous waste.[3]
- The city collects up to 25 bags of yard waste and one pile per week at no additional charge; larger amounts can be hauled by the resident or removed by the city for an additional charge.[2]
- Leaves and grass must be bagged and set at the curb, off the street, for once a week pickup, and yard waste does not go in roll out containers.[2]
- Limbs may be up to 4 feet long and no more than 6 inches in diameter, and no single item of yard trash may weigh more than 50 pounds.[2]
Milton trash pickup schedule
- The city's street list shows each street's trash days and yard debris day; trash is collected twice a week on either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday.[5]
- Yard debris is picked up on a separate weekly day that varies by street, as shown in the same city list.[5]
- The city's 2026 sanitation schedule shifts pickups for holidays; for example, on Labor Day, September 7, 2026, Monday pickup moved to Tuesday and Tuesday pickup moved to Wednesday.[4]
- Veterans Day, November 11, 2026, is listed as a normal pickup day.[4]
- For Thanksgiving (November 26 and 27, 2026) and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (December 24 and 25, 2026), the city calendar lists Monday and Tuesday pickups only.[4]

Check with the city first
- Milton's regular trash service does not take furniture, mattresses or appliances, and the city's curbside Community Cleanup runs once a year in spring, so ask Public Works what applies to your street before setting large items out.
- The city did not post a price for removing excess yard debris, so ask for the charge before you request it.
- Landfill rates were updated January 1, 2026 and can change again, so confirm fees and hours with the scale house before hauling a load.
- After storms, debris rules and pickup days often change, so check city and county notices first.
We left these out because we could not read them on an official page when we checked:
- Milton bulk pickup outside the annual Community Cleanup (how to request, cost)
- Milton excess yard debris removal charge
